The Lions Club of Galle Fort successfully organized a comprehensive awareness and development program for the newly enrolled students of Advanced Technological Institute (ATI), Galle. The program was held on 10th September 2025 at the ATI premises, with the participation of approximately 450 students. This initiative was designed to empower students at the beginning of their academic journey by enhancing their leadership qualities, personal development skills, and awareness of social responsibilities and legal frameworks. The sessions were conducted by experienced resource persons who delivered engaging and practical insights on effective leadership, communication skills, self-discipline, time management, and ethical decision-making.

In response to the Ditwa Disaster, the Lions Club of Galle Fort, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Karapitiya, organized a humanitarian relief program on 30th November 2025 to support affected communities. Understanding the urgent needs of families impacted by the disaster, the project focused on distributing essential relief items including dry food rations, drinking water, sanitary items, and other basic necessities. These supplies were carefully prepared to help families cope with immediate hardships and maintain basic living conditions during the difficult period. The total value of the donations exceeded LKR 200,000/-, reflecting the strong commitment and compassion of both clubs in responding promptly to community needs during times of crisis.

Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Project – “Pink Shield 2025”

The Lions Club of Galle Fort successfully organized the “Pink Shield 2025” Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Project in collaboration with the medical team of National Hospital Karapitiya. The program was specially conducted for the women officers of the Government Officers with the objective of promoting early detection and raising awareness about breast cancer. This impactful initiative focused on educating participants about the importance of early diagnosis, self-examination techniques, and preventive healthcare practices. Expert medical professionals conducted informative sessions, highlighting risk factors, symptoms, and available treatment options. In addition to the awareness sessions, a comprehensive screening program was carried out, providing participants with the opportunity to undergo clinical examinations by qualified healthcare personnel. This ensured timely identification of potential health concerns and encouraged participants to take proactive steps .

International service week project for hunger

The Lions Club of Galle Royalty successfully carried out a Hunger Relief Project under the Lions Clubs International Service Week, held from January 3rd to 11th. The project was conducted at an elderly orphanage, where dinner was provided to 15 no of the residents, addressing their nutritional needs with care and compassion. To support mental well-being, a musical event was organized after dinner, enabling the elderly participants to enjoy meaningful interaction and emotional relaxation. In addition, a Gilanpasa Buddha Pooja was conducted, adding spiritual value to the program. The project was chaired by Lion Deshapriya as the Project Chairman and was honored by the participation of Region Chairperson Lion Ravindra Kuruwita, MJF, Club President Lion Chandima, and Lion Nilanga Wasala. This project clearly demonstrated the Lions Clubs International commitment to holistic service under the motto *“We Serve.”*

The Donation of Tokens for the Zonal Athletic Tournament

The Donation of Tokens for the Zonal Athletic Tournament – Elpitiya Zone was carried out by Lion Lakma Kithmini of the Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya, in her capacity as the School Manager/ Director of Minco High School and as the Club President. The objective of this contribution was to support and encourage student participation and achievement in sports. A total of 10 medium-sized tokens and 2 large-sized tokens were donated for the tournament. The total expenditure for the project was LKR 16,400, with medium tokens valued at LKR 1,500 each and large tokens at LKR 2,200 each. This initiative contributed to motivating students and recognizing their talents, while strengthening the relationship between the school and the Lions Club, reflecting a commitment to youth development and community engagement.

International Children’s Day Celebration 2025 – District Project

In celebration of International Children’s Day on 1st October 2025, the Lions Club of Galle Fort successfully organized a large-scale community service project benefiting 1,250 preschool children across the Galle District. As part of this initiative, essential and joyful items including collecting pots and toys were distributed to all participating preschool children. This effort aimed not only to support their early development but also to bring happiness and encouragement to young learners. The event was filled with vibrant and heartwarming moments, as preschool children and their teachers presented a series of marvelous dance performances and entertaining items. These performances created a joyful atmosphere and reflected the enthusiasm and talent of the children, making the occasion truly memorable for everyone present.

The Primary Teacher Training Program

The Primary Teacher Training Program was organized by Lion Upul Chandrasekara of the Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya on 14th March 2026 at Pangirihena Resort, with the objective of enhancing teaching skills and educational practices among primary school teachers. A total of 21 teachers participated in the program, which was conducted by Trainer Mr. Gamini Jayawardhana, who provided valuable insights and practical knowledge for effective classroom management and teaching methodologies. Lion Rumesh Gamage supported the project by providing the venue and lunch at a discounted rate, while Lion Lakma contributed by arranging the sound system for the session.
