Extended financial assistance to a child diagnosed with cancer

The Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya extended financial assistance to a child diagnosed with cancer by donating LKR 50,000 in cash and settling medical bills amounting to LKR 30,000. This compassionate initiative provided much-needed support to the child and their family during a difficult time (As there was no specific category available for this type of support, the project was reported under Clinical Programs and Music Therapy.)

Blood donation campaign

A blood donation campaign was successfully organized by the Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya with the support of Minco High School Elpitiya at the school premises. More than 80 volunteers participated in the programme, out of which 65 donors were able to donate blood successfully. The campaign was conducted with the assistance of medical officers and nursing staff from the Blood Bank of the National Hospital Karapitiya, ensuring proper medical supervision and safety standards. Each donor was awarded a certificate, refreshments, and a flowering plant as a souvenir in appreciation of their contribution. In addition, lunch was provided for 15 members of the medical staff. This initiative contributed significantly towards supporting the national blood supply while promoting the importance of voluntary blood donation within the community.

On 06th December 2025, the Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya, in collaboration with Minco High School Elpitiya, successfully conducted a joint hunger relief project at Minco High School, Elpitiya. As part of this initiative, king coconut, food items, and fruits were distributed among 65 blood donors to promote nutrition and well-being. The beneficiaries expressed great satisfaction and appreciation for the support received. This project contributed towards addressing hunger while supporting and encouraging voluntary blood donors, reflecting the club’s commitment to community health and welfare.

On 06th December 2025, the Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya, in collaboration with Minco High School Elpitiya, successfully conducted a joint project at Minco High School, Elpitiya. As a gesture of appreciation for their invaluable contribution, herbal plants and flowering plants were distributed among 65 blood donors. This initiative served as a meaningful token of gratitude, and the recipients expressed great satisfaction and happiness, recognizing the value and sustainability of the gift. The project highlighted the importance of appreciating voluntary blood donors while promoting environmental awareness.

On 05th December 2025, the Lions Club of Galle Karapitiya, together with Minco High School Elpitiya and the Lions Club of Galle Fort, carried out a joint humanitarian project to support those affected by the Dithwa Cyclone. Essential items valued at over LKR 400,000, including sanitary pads, diapers, water bottles, unused baby clothes, used adult clothes, baby food, milk packets, biscuits, and other necessities, were collected and distributed. These relief items were officially handed over to the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra programme for effective distribution among the affected communities. This project demonstrated strong collaboration and commitment towards disaster relief and community support.

Tree of Life” Coconut-Planting"Kapruka" Initiative – Lions Club of Matara Excellence Based on a proposal by Multiple District Chairperson Lion Shana Jayalath, and in honor of the appointment of District Governor Lion Jagath Chandana Weerasinghe (MJF, MAF, JP), the Lions Club of Matara Excellence launched its first official project of the Lionistic Year under the Lions International global cause “Nature.” On this day, club members successfully planted 100 coconut trees in Puhulwella village, Yatiyana, Matara, at a total cost of USD 133.48. Coconut palms were chosen for their ability to absorb carbon dioxide, enrich the environment, and provide future economic opportunities. Expected benefits within five years include: • Protection of the environment and improved air quality • Support for the national coconut supply • Rural income generation from coconuts, leaves, husks, charcoal, and coconut honey • New employment opportunities for local communities

Individuals with Down syndrome were provided with haircuts, new clothes, and enjoyed breakfast and lunch accompanied by a pleasant musical event, which helped create a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere. All club members actively contributed to making the event a success. However, we respected their wishes and did not take photographs while providing food items.
