Strong Mind Leadership & Motivational Program

A Strong Mind Leadership & Motivational Program was successfully conducted for students of Grades 10 and 11 at St. Mary’s Convent, Matara. The program aimed to empower 400+ students to develop resilience, self-confidence, and effective life planning skills while promoting mental well-being. Key focus areas included time management, responsibility, and personal growth. The session created a positive and engaging learning environment for students and staff. Refreshments were provided to all participants. With a total project value of approximately LKR 150,000, this initiative significantly contributed to youth development and mental health awareness.

2025 World Rabies Vaccination Program

A World Rabies Vaccination and Awareness Program was successfully conducted on 27th September 2025 at the Weligama Municipal Council by the Lions Club of Matara Excellence. The initiative focused on preventing rabies and promoting responsible pet care. A total of 60 dogs and cats were vaccinated, benefiting pet owners and the wider community by reducing the risk of rabies transmission. The program was carried out with the participation of Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Chathuranga Lokumarabage and Lions members. Funded by the club with a total value of LKR 66,000, the project was completed within 6 service hours, demonstrating commitment to public health and safety.

Donation of Library Books to Uva Provincial Library Services Board

Providing Lunch for School Students on Sinha Charika Day

Lions National Disaster Relief Initiative – Standing Strong with Sri Lanka “Sahana Yathra”

Following the devastating floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, the Lions Club of Matara Excellence launched a large-scale disaster relief initiative under the “Sahana Yathra” program. The project focused on providing essential aid including dry rations, drinking water, clothing, and medicines to affected families. Led by Lion Kasun and Lion Chammera, club members actively contributed and coordinated relief efforts. A dedicated team of Lions, along with district leaders, personally visited the Gampola area to distribute aid and support affected communities. With a total project value exceeding LKR 517,000, this initiative provided relief to over 1,000 individuals, demonstrating Lions' commitment to humanitarian service during times of crisis.

Peace Poster Contest- Together as One

The Lions District D8 successfully organized the Peace Poster Contest as part of its initiative to promote peace, creativity, and awareness among school children. As part of this project, we collected peace posters from three schools: Horewela Vidyalaya, Walgammulla Vidyalaya, and Modarawana Maha Vidyalaya. Students from these schools actively participated by creating meaningful and creative posters based on the theme of peace. After collecting all the entries, a careful selection process was carried out to choose the best posters. The selected students were recognized and awarded presents in appreciation of their creativity and effort. Following the selection at the local level, the best posters were forwarded to Galle for further evaluation at the district level. We are proud to announce that one of the submitted posters was selected as a winning entry. The winning poster was created by student A. Oshalitha Kavinda from Horewela Vidyalaya.

We carried out a community service project by donating school items to selected school children from low-income families. The main objective of this project was to support underprivileged students and encourage their education by providing essential learning materials. The school consists of 55 students, and we distributed 55 school packs, ensuring that each child received one complete set. Each pack was carefully prepared to include necessary items for daily school activities. A single pack contained 5 exercise books, 1 pencil case, 5 pencils, 3 pens, 3 erasers, 1 ruler, and 1 colour box. The value of one pack was LKR 1100, making the total donation significant in supporting these children’s educational needs. This initiative helped to reduce the financial burden on their families and motivated the students to continue their studies with enthusiasm.

Tree Planting Project for School Herbal Garden

Tree planting project was organized to establish School Herbal Garden at Minuwanvila Primary School , Yakkalamulla parallel to the World Childrens Day Celibrations 2025. 18 Species of Herbal Plants were planted.

World Childrens Day Celibrations ,The signature project of Lions Club of Galle City New Century was held at Yakkalamulla Minuwanvila Primary School on 01st October 2025 . The Chief Guest was Global Service Chairperson Lion Chinthaka Darmasoma MAF . Shoes, Socks and School Items were donated to all the Students as consecutive 4 th year. Lunch was prepared for school community and Childhood Cancer awareness lecture was conducted by Consultant Lion Ruwan Parakramawansha , Head of Department ( Medicine ) of Sabaragamuva University Faculty of Medicine . Tree Planting for School Herbal Garden was also done.

An eye clinic and a doctor's appointment

A group of low-income elderly people in the Deniyaya area were selected and a medical clinic and eye examination were conducted for them, and the necessary eyeglasses will be provided to them in the future. Distribution of Uniforms for Sunday School Children

A humanitarian project was successfully conducted by the Lions Club of Matara Excellence at Palatuwa Bauddhodaya Maha Viharaya, providing uniform materials and refreshments to 375 Sunday School children. This initiative aimed to support the spiritual, educational, and social development of children while promoting equal opportunities regardless of economic background. The program was carried out with the participation of Lions members and community support. With a total project value of approximately LKR 311,000, this project reflects the club’s strong commitment to youth development and community service.

An awareness program on diabetes

An awareness program on diabetes was held at the Matara Malimbada Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium under the full guidance of Akuressa Legends Lions Club and more than 100 local residents participated in this. Dr. Ruwan Raigamkoralage participated as the speaker and delivered a very meaningful lecture. The entire financial contribution of our Lions Club member lion Samith Gunasekara was borne by and several Lions members participated.

Providing assistance to those affected by floods and landslides and those displaced.

Due to the heavy rainfall that hit Sri Lanka at the end of November 2025, many parts of Sri Lanka faced severe flooding and landslides. The government said that the worst affected area was the Badulla district in Sri Lanka's Uva province. Thousands of people in these areas faced very difficult situations due to this natural disaster. Akuressa legends lion's club, as always, took the initiative and gathered the people of Akuressa area with their donations and with the full support and participation of Akuressa kiddies kingdom pre-school, Dr. Sampath of Ratnapura Hospital and his team of doctors from Badulla General Hospital, organized a medical clinic for nearly 800 of our own people who were displaced in Anpitiya temple in Hali Ela area of ​​Badulla and distributed many valuable things including dry goods, sanitary items, pillows, medicines, slippers, pesticides worth more than five hundred thousand rupees. World Rabies Day Awareness Program 2025

In line with World Rabies Day 2025, the Lions Club of Matara Excellence conducted a rabies awareness program at Siddhartha Vidyalaya, Weligama. The initiative aimed to educate students and staff on rabies prevention, responsible pet care, and the importance of vaccination. The session was conducted by Lion Dr. Chathuranga Lokumarabage, whose expert knowledge and interactive approach ensured effective engagement. Over 500 participants attended, and awareness leaflets were distributed. With a total project value of approximately LKR 50,000, this project contributed to national efforts in reducing rabies and promoting public health awareness.
