The program aimed to empower 400+ students to develop resilience, self-confidence, and effective life planning skills while promoting mental well-being. Key focus areas included time management, responsibility, and personal growth. The session created a positive and engaging learning environment for students and staff. Refreshments were provided to all participants. With a total project value of approximately LKR 150,000, this initiative significantly contributed to youth development and mental health awareness. |

A World Rabies Vaccination and Awareness Program was successfully conducted on 27th September 2025 at the Weligama Municipal Council by the Lions Club of Matara Excellence. The initiative focused on preventing rabies and promoting responsible pet care. A total of 60 dogs and cats were vaccinated, benefiting pet owners and the wider community by reducing the risk of rabies transmission. The program was carried out with the participation of Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Chathuranga Lokumarabage and Lions members. Funded by the club with a total value of LKR 66,000, the project was completed within 6 service hours, demonstrating commitment to public health and safety. |

Following the devastating floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, the Lions Club of Matara Excellence launched a large-scale disaster relief initiative under the “Sahana Yathra” program. The project focused on providing essential aid including dry rations, drinking water, clothing, and medicines to affected families. Led by Lion Kasun and Lion Chammera, club members actively contributed and coordinated relief efforts. A dedicated team of Lions, along with district leaders, personally visited the Gampola area to distribute aid and support affected communities. With a total project value exceeding LKR 517,000, this initiative provided relief to over 1,000 individuals, demonstrating Lions' commitment to humanitarian service during times of crisis. |

The Lions District D8 successfully organized the Peace Poster Contest as part of its initiative to promote peace, creativity, and awareness among school children. As part of this project, we collected peace posters from three schools: Horewela Vidyalaya, Walgammulla Vidyalaya, and Modarawana Maha Vidyalaya. Students from these schools actively participated by creating meaningful and creative posters based on the theme of peace. After collecting all the entries, a careful selection process was carried out to choose the best posters. The selected students were recognized and awarded presents in appreciation of their creativity and effort. Following the selection at the local level, the best posters were forwarded to Galle for further evaluation at the district level. We are proud to announce that one of the submitted posters was selected as a winning entry. The winning poster was created by student A. Oshalitha Kavinda from Horewela Vidyalaya. |

We carried out a community service project by donating school items to selected school children from low-income families. The main objective of this project was to support underprivileged students and encourage their education by providing essential learning materials. The school consists of 55 students, and we distributed 55 school packs, ensuring that each child received one complete set. Each pack was carefully prepared to include necessary items for daily school activities. A single pack contained 5 exercise books, 1 pencil case, 5 pencils, 3 pens, 3 erasers, 1 ruler, and 1 colour box. The value of one pack was LKR 1100, making the total donation significant in supporting these children’s educational needs. This initiative helped to reduce the financial burden on their families and motivated the students to continue their studies with enthusiasm. |

Due to the heavy rainfall that hit Sri Lanka at the end of November 2025, many parts of Sri Lanka faced severe flooding and landslides. The government said that the worst affected area was the Badulla district in Sri Lanka's Uva province. Thousands of people in these areas faced very difficult situations due to this natural disaster. Akuressa legends lion's club, as always, took the initiative and gathered the people of Akuressa area with their donations and with the full support and participation of Akuressa kiddies kingdom pre-school, Dr. Sampath of Ratnapura Hospital and his team of doctors from Badulla General Hospital, organized a medical clinic for nearly 800 of our own people who were displaced in Anpitiya temple in Hali Ela area of Badulla and distributed many valuable things including dry goods, sanitary items, pillows, medicines, slippers, pesticides worth more than five hundred thousand rupees.
