Under the Clean Up Sri Lanka District Program, a large-scale beach cleanup was conducted on 20th September 2025 along the Matara beach stretch from the Fort to Brown’s Hill with participation from Lions and Leo Clubs of Regions 05 and 04. Equipment including gloves, garbage bags, and vests was provided by Shraddha TV. Over 80 kg of plastic and polythene waste was collected, contributing to environmental protection and public awareness. The activity was held from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Lions Club of Matara Excellence participated with 10 members: Lion Dilini Thompson, Lion Chathuranga Lokumarambage, Lion Sanjaya Kumara, Lion Ashika Patabandige, Lion Ravindu Runage, Lion Dhanushka Namal, Lion Aasitha Priyadarshana, Lion Hasitha Kethmal, Lion Dilshan Thilakshana, and Mr. Milan (non-Lion), alongside multiple Lions and Leo Clubs. |

**Breast Cancer Awareness & Healthy Living Initiative** As part of our commitment to community well-being, this project aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and emphasize the importance of early detection. Educating individuals about regular self-examinations, medical check-ups, and recognizing early warning signs can save lives. The consultant was Dr. Bhagya Piyasiri, Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, Head of the Department of Microbiology and Infection Control and Prevention at National Hospital Galle, Sri Lanka In addition, the project highlights the value of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition. Encouraging the consumption of balanced, nutritious foods helps strengthen the immune system and reduces the risk of various illnesses, including cancer. Through this initiative, we strive to empower our fellow lions with knowledge, promote healthy habits, and inspire a proactive approach to personal health and well-being. |
Donation of Rice Cookers, Gas Pots & Clothes to Ditwa Affected People of Passara Divisional Secretariat AreaBy lions Club of

Donation of kitchen equipment (rice cookers & gas pots) and clothes for the Ditwa affected people of Passara area jointly with Lions Club of Plenty Valley and Lions Club of South East Business of Australia. Value of the project is Rs. 885,700-. 184 families were selected by the Divisional Secretary after a careful evaluation and each family was given with a rice cooker and two gas clay pots of 8” & 9”. Families with 4 or above were given away a 1.8L rice cooker and families with 3 or less members were given away a 1L rice cooker. Lions have spent approximately 100 lionistic hours (overall) for the project and almost 84 lionistic hours were spent on the project day. 17 volunteers joined the project. Ie. 7 lions, 5 lion ladies, 3 children & 2 well-wishers. |
