We conducted the “Suwanari” health camp for the Southern Provincial Education Department officers in Galle, Sri Lanka. As part of the program, we organized a seminar on cervical cancer and breast cancer. In addition, we checked the blood sugar levels of 85 participants and carried out breast examinations for the ladies. This project was supported by the doctors from Asiri Hospital.

Project Coordinator - Thanuja Wijesinghe Participants - 250 Believe In You at the ' Clean Sri Lanka' day at Sacred Heart Convent. Lion Thanuja Wijesinghe Senaviratna addressed 250 students at Sacred Heart Convent 'Clean' starts from self, and from home, to do all this we should always have a clean mind, clean attitudes, clean behaviour. This makes self to keep environment clean always because we take responsibility of self and respect others and environment around us. The children will be using their green bags to take their refuse home to do correct disposal and they will be taking a plastic free school.

Salmal Cute Kids - Workshop for Special kids

Project coordinator - Lion Chandrika & Lion Rajiv Two valuable workshops were held for children with special needs on July 5th and July 26th. Club President Thanuja Senavirathna, participated with a group of special educational officials to inform the parents as a resource person.Programs were held at the Salmal Cute Kids School under the guidance of Lion Chandrika.There are around 20 children with different abilities participating the project.Teachers are conducting art and craft , motor skill development to develop mobility and hand and eye coordination for kids. Parents are addressed by resource people with most updated methods bringing up differently able child. 4th July - 20 children, 12 parents , 5 resource people 26th July - 18 children, 15 parents, 5 resource people

Woman Empowerment Project

Woman Empowerment Project conducted by Lion Janaka De Silva & Chef Ajith.Project coordinator - Lion Thanuja and Dimuthu we are very proud to announce that our- Women Empowerment Project " Cake/Pastry/Bakery/Pudding" - 6 months course was started at Pizza Den under full sponsorship of Lion Janaka De Silva, The batch of ladies were addressed by Lion Janaka, Chef Ajith, Lion Thanuja, Lion Nellie and Lion Dimuthu. We are honored to have a very young participant Nisangi Kahada Gamage who decided to do this course after O/L and reached her goals of being a first-class chef in early age of her life. She is a changemaker in the course and will be inspiring others too. Thanks Lion Janaka for your thoughts of serving the community to develop skills to impact economy. The course will be conducted 2 days per week and from 8 to 1pm.Total cost for one participant for 6 months will be Rs.200000 and for 11 students the course value will be Rs 2,200,000

Speech Therapy Pragathi - July payment

Project coordinator - Lion Thanuja Donor - Lion Janaka Imasha the Speech Therapist has completed the July month for speech therapy for special kids at Pragathi center. She has checked 76 patients within 75 working hours. A monthly allowance of Rs.30000 paid.

School Leadership and Personal Development Program – “Future Leaders 2025”

Lions Club of Galle Fort successfully conducted a full-day Leadership and Personal Development Program titled “Future Leaders 2025” for the students of Katukurunda Dharmika College on 20th August 2025. The session aimed to build leadership, teamwork, and personal discipline among school leaders and student representatives. The program was conducted in collaboration with the National Youth Corps Training Centre – Akmeemana. Students were engaged in structured activities and motivational sessions led by experienced Youth Corps officers. The event was highly appreciated by school staff and local education authorities. Impact: Empowered 122 students with essential leadership skills and motivation, supporting the development of future community leaders.

"Pink Shield 2025" - Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening Program for Women Police Officers - Galle Division

Key Objectives: - To raise awareness on preventing breast cancer and encourage early detection through education. - To provide free breast screening services to women officers who often have limited time for personal healthcare due to their demanding roles. - To promote health consciousness and self-care in high-risk professional environments. Session 1 – Awareness L Delivered by Dr. Kokila Munasingha, Consultant from the Cancer Unit, focusing on: - Understanding risk factors - Self-examination techniques - Lifestyle-based prevention strategies Session 2 – Screening - Confidential and professional medical check-ups by hospital staff - Personalized guidance for follow-up where needed Key Outcomes & Benefits: - Over 78 women police officers received life-saving awareness and screening services. - Improved health literacy among frontline officers. - Strengthened community trust between Lions Club and law enforcement. - Promoted public-private collaboration in healthcare outreach.

Event: Road Accident Prevention Awareness Program Organized by: Lions Club of Galle Fort Date: Friday, 12th July 2025 Time: 10:00 AM - 12.30 PM Venue: Koggala High Road Bridge Collaborators: Ahangama & Habaraduwa Police, AIA Insurance, Ceylinco Insurance, HNB Assurance Overview: The Lions Club of Galle Fort successfully conducted a Road Accident Prevention Awareness Program with the participation of local police and insurance institutions. The initiative focused on educating the public on road safety, responsible driving, and post-accident procedures. Objectives: - Raise awareness among drivers, riders, and pedestrians. - Provide expert guidance from traffic police and insurance officers. - Educate on accident response, compensation, and legal support. Outcome: - Total Participants: 1,252 individuals reached. - Delivered interactive sessions and Q&A discussions. - Distributed leaflets and educational material on road safety.

To mark the commencement of the Lionistic Year 2025/2026, the Lions Club of Galle Fort proudly initiated the first project of the year with a meaningful Tree Planting Drive under the theme “Planting Today For a Greener Tomorrow.” All club members actively participated by planting trees in their own premises and communities, symbolizing our commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship of nature. This project aligns with the global Lions focus on protecting our planet and promoting a greener future.
