Conducted a health camp for elderly persons

A holistic health and wellness program was carried out for older adult inmates, with the aim of evaluating and enhancing their overall physical well-being. As part of the program, each participant underwent a comprehensive health assessment to identify existing medical conditions. Based on these findings, appropriate medications and individualized medical guidance were provided to support better health outcomes. Alongside medical support, Ayurvedic treatments were offered to promote relaxation and mobility. These therapies included head, foot, and back massages, as well as joint care treatments, delivered according to individual needs to improve comfort and physical flexibility.

"Where Not to Go" (Noya Yuthu Thana) - Drug Prevention & Legal Awareness

Addressing the critical issue of drug addiction among youth, we organized a high-impact awareness program titled "Where Not to Go" at President’s College. The keynote speaker was District Governor Lion Jagath Weerasinghe MJF, MAF (Commissioner of Prisons), who provided expert insights into the legal consequences of crime and the grim realities of drug abuse. Utilizing a massive 10x14 ft LED screen for visual impact, the session educated 890 students, 39 teachers, and parents from neighboring schools. The program successfully motivated students to build self-discipline and stay away from high-risk environments. This vital project was fully funded by Project Chairman Lion Shamil Chamika, ensuring the next generation is empowered with the legal knowledge to make safer life choices. Project: Restoration & Cleaning of Children’s Playground - Phase I

Phase I of a dedicated restoration mission was launched to reclaim the neglected children's playground at Gam Udawa Stadium. The park had become unusable due to heavy overgrowth and lack of maintenance. Our team, supported by professional laborers and grass-cutting machinery, cleared the entire area of weeds and debris over a 6-hour intensive session. 08 Lions and family members participated in the cleanup and site preparation. This initial phase has successfully prepared the ground for Phase II, which will focus on repairing equipment and infrastructure. This project ensures a safe and healthy recreational space for over 150 local children, fostering community well-being. Fully funded by Lion Hiranga Thalpavila. "Lions' Haven" - Permanent House Construction

In a life-changing intervention, we constructed a fully equipped permanent house for a destitute family of five in Kiula-Ara. The family, including a chronically ill child, previously lived in a mud hut that was repeatedly destroyed by wild elephants, leaving them in constant danger. Over a period of three months, we built a secure home featuring piped water, electricity, modern sanitation, and basic furniture. The project transformed their lives from fear and poverty to safety and dignity. This massive humanitarian effort was personally funded by Project Chairman Lion Nihal Wijesiri, ensuring a sustainable and secure future for this vulnerable family. Ayurveda Massage Therapy Training

For the second time, the club selected a student and referred her to Haritha Ayurveda Academy to follow the Ayurveda Massage Therapy Course. As she was not in a position to bear the course expenses, we requested the academy to provide financial assistance. After considering our request, and as one of the academy’s lecturers is also a member of our club, the Board of Directors agreed to grant a course fee waiver worth LKR 80,000. Upon successfully completing the training, she has now been attached to Haritha Ayurveda Pvt Ltd as an Ayurveda Therapist, enabling her to begin her professional career in the field.

Awarness Programm for waste management

Conducted an awareness program for school children on waste management. During the session, students were educated on different types of waste and how to correctly categorize them. The program also highlighted how waste can be reused and recycled for various purposes. Additionally, the importance of proper waste management was clearly explained, including its impact on the environment and human health. The session further emphasized how effective waste management practices can be transformed into a potential source of income.

A special Ayurvedic medical camp was held at Ganegoda Akmeemana Temple on 18th October with five Ayurvedic Medical Officers and three support staff. The program focused on promoting holistic health through traditional practices. Services included treatment and counseling for common conditions, preventive healthcare, referrals for further treatment, guidance on communicable and non-communicable diseases, and health education on healthy lifestyles. The camp improved community health by encouraging early detection and preventive care, supporting long-term wellness. The project was led by Project Manager Mr. Siril Guruge, ensuring smooth coordination of all activities.

During the clinic, blood sugar testing, blood pressure screening, height and weight measurements, eye examinations, and relevant medical advice were provided.

Project: Elephant Fence Electric Systems for Vulnerable Families

In a direct life-saving intervention, the Lions Club installed solar-powered elephant fence electric systems for two underprivileged families in Thanamalwila. These families, totaling 12 members, were living in constant fear as wild elephants frequently encroached on their home garden. By installing these professional-grade electric fences, we have ensured the safety of their lives, property, and livelihoods. This project provides a sustainable solution to the intense human-elephant conflict in the area. The entire cost was personally funded by Lion Shamil Chamika and Lion Nihal Wijesiri, demonstrating their deep commitment to community safety and individual empowerment. Project: Positive Thinking & Problem Solving Workshop

Addressing the mental well-being of the youth, we organized an interactive workshop titled "Positive Thinking for Life" for 170 students of the Mathematics Club at President’s College. The session bridged the gap between academic logic and life challenges, teaching students to solve daily problems with a positive and balanced mindset. The program featured engaging outdoor activities and stress-management discussions led by our own members as resource persons. We provided healthy refreshments for all 185 participants, including students and staff. This initiative empowered the students with psychological resilience and a fresh perspective on balancing education with a stress-free lifestyle.
