To commemorate the Melvin John's month, Lions Club of Galupura Central, conducted a psychosocial support programme at Jinaraja Girls’ School, Gampola, on 26th and 27th January 2026.The programme reached 1,000 students from Grades 6, 9, and 10, O/L (December and February batches), A/L (August batch), as well as junior and senior prefects & Teachers. The sessions were conducted under the theme “Healing Minds and Rebuilding a Resilient Personality”, a programme designed by 'Believe In You' founder Lion Thanuja Wijesinghe Senaviratna. The main objective of the project was to provide immediate, accessible, and culturally appropriate psychosocial support to communities affected by the Cyclone Dithwa disaster. Based on a prior need assessment and study, the programme was tailor-made to suit different age groups, ensuring relevance and effectiveness for each student category. We sincerely appreciate and acknowledge the dedication of the volunteer counsellors who supported us. |

Four students were identified at the eye tracing done for 150 students at the Galpoththa Rajamaha viharaya dhamma school. All four students were identified with very poor vision. One student had a deformity in his left eye which was referred to the pediatric eye specialist for treatment. The donors of the project is Lion Janaka and Lion Ruwan. Lion Janaka and Lion Thanuja handed over the spectacles to the students. |

Matara Nupe Cultural Center, Matara Divisional Secretariat office, and the Matara Millennium Ladies' Club jointly organized a programme for pregnant mothers named “Senehasa.” During this programme, 100 pregnant mothers were provided with essential items for newborn babies, including 100 baby suits, 100 bed jackets, and 100 chintz clothes. In addition, the mothers were served morning snacks and soup, a lunch meal, and a fruit bowl. |

Lions Club of Galupura Central organised a two day medical camp with Lions club of Lunugamwehera Heritage. We got our volunteer doctor group from UAE 'Health Care Hope's calling' as well as doctors from our club, volunteer three doctors for general medicine from National Hospital Galle and Hambanthota as well as a Senior medical Technologist. UAE Doctors sponsored the whole medical and dental camp for two days. 1st day we were at Lunugamwehera, Hambanthota for more than 200 patients. The second day delivered Dental care and Ayurvedic treatment. We exceeded 300 patients. The UAE team brought in all needed medicines for dental treatment and oral hygiene. The team covered many tooth fillings, scaling, Flouride treatments, Tooth extractions and dentures. They covered all costs 1. Rs 300000 to cover the ground work, meals for resource people, sounds, tents and chairs 2. Rs 75,000 2nd treatment for patients 3. Rs 300,000 for all other dental care 4. Rs 400,000 for dentures |
