The Galle Akmeemana Centennial Lions Club held the commemoration of Melvin Jones, the founder of the Lions philosophy, along with its monthly meeting on 18.01.2026 at the residence of Lion Sal Ruk Gamage. The Melvin Jones Memorial Address was delivered by Lion Ananda Abeywickrama.

On 2026.01.11, under the chairmanship of Lion Iraj Gunasekara, Treasurer of the Galle Akmeemana Centennial Lions Club, food was distributed to 100 underprivileged individuals. It is noted that 100 meal packets, 100 bottles of water, and 100 yogurts were provided to them.

For the benefit of the children of Thisara Pre-School in Anangoda, Galle, the Galle Diamond Lions Club donated a wardrobe and building Box toys for the development of the children's minds. In conjunction with the Hunger Week declared by Lions International from 03rd January 2026 to 11th January 2026, the Galle Diamond Lions Club conducted a service project. Accordingly, 18 children and staff of “Thisara Pre-School” in Anangoda, Galle were provided with lunch and dessert on 09th January 2026. The President and Secretary of the Galle Diamond Lions Club as well as several family members participated in this project. (53 : 01)

Grantha Manorama was a joint project carried out in collaboration with the University of Colombo Leo Clubs, with the aim of promoting knowledge, literacy, and a love for reading within the community. The second phase of Grantha Manorama, titled “Miles of Smiles 7.0,” focused on strengthening access to educational resources. As part of this initiative, a large number of books were donated to the library of Keppetiyawa Purana Raja Maha Viharaya. This book donation was intended to enrich the temple library and provide valuable reading materials for children, students, and community members who use the library. Through this project, we aimed to support education, encourage reading habits, and create a positive and lasting impact on the community. Grantha Manorama – Miles of Smiles 7.0 stands as a meaningful example of collaboration, service, and commitment to spreading knowledge and smiles through education.

The Galle Diamond Lions Club donated text books and school supplies to the children of Gamipola Berawila College who were displaced by the recent landslides and floods. The textbooks and school supplies were donated to the “Helping Hands – Dakune Api” Foundation's donation collection center on 31st December 2025. The President, Secretary and several other Lions of the Galle Diamond Lions Club participated in the event. Lion Jinesh Nanayakkara, Vice President of the Galle Diamond Lions Club, acted as the chairman of this project.

Distribute dry rations to the people

A program to collect and distribute dry rations to the people affected by the landslides and floods that hit Sri Lanka was conducted by the Galle Diamond Lions Club of 306 D8 Lions District. This program was conducted at the Kaluwella International Buddhist Center, Galle in collaboration with the Manusath Derana TV and Dialog Axiata Institute. (30.11.2025 and 01.12.2025 both day from 0900 - 1700 hrs) Dry food items, books, water bottles, clothes and many other items were collected and these items were duly handed over on 01st December 2025 for distribution to the affected people with the blessings of the Maha Sangha. This program was conducted under the full supervision of the Governor of 306 D8 Lions District, Lion Jagath Weerasinghe, MJF,MAF,JP. 05 Lions were attended from Galle Diamond Lions Club.

An awareness program for street sellers organized by the Galle Diamond Lions Club was held on 05th December 2025 at the Etambagasmulla, Pilana, Galle. Public Health Medical Officer Dhanushka de Alwis gave an awareness session on food safety, and Inspector Prabath of Akmeemana Police Station delivered a lecture on the legal situation. 28 street sellers participated in this program, and Lion Jinesh Nanayakkara, Secretary of the Galle Diamond Lions Society, acted as the Project Chairman.

An environmental awareness program and vegetable sapling distribution project organized by the Galle Diamond Lions Club was held at the Akmeemana Thalgasyaya Temple on 03rd December 2025. 41 farmers from the area participated in this event, which was presided over by the Chief Incumbent Gunaratne Thero. Mr. Nirosh Suranga Hettiarachichi, Agricultural Consultant of the National Plantation Industrial Estate, delivered a special lecture on environmental awareness. Agricultural officers from government and non-government organizations contributed to this, and Lion Jinesh Nanayakkara, Vice President of the Galle Diamond Lions Club, acted as the Project Chairman.

Religious Activities for people who dead by flood and Landslide Victim

A memorial ceremony and timely buddhist sermon for the flood and landslide victims organized by the Galle Diamond Lions Club was held on 04th December 2025 at the Sri Luddaramaya Temple, Thalpe North. The religious ceremony of the memorial service was conducted by Ven. Kalahe Narada Nayaka Thero on the occasion of the Poya Day, and the Dayaka Sabha of the temple also supported this.

To promote agriculture in the area, the Galle Diamond Lions Club conducted a program to distribute hybrid Jack Fruit seeds among farmers on 03rd December 2025 at the Meegoda Temple in Galle. The hybrid Jack fruits were distributed among 20 women in the area who expressed interest in agriculture, and the officials of the Ministry of Plantation Department provided advice to the farmers on planting and maintaining the coconuts.

The District Family Get Together organized by the 306 D8 Lions District was held on 22nd November 2025 at South Lake Resort, Ahangama. This Get Together was held with a number of features for all and was held in a very grand manner from 1000 hours to 1800 hours. On behalf of the Lions District, Lion Lahiru Munasinghe, a member of the Galle Diamond Lions Club, acted as the main organizer of this District Family Get Together. The Galle Diamond Lions Club sponsored 10 tickets worth Rs. 3500.00. (Book No. 11) In addition, Lion Jinesh Nanayakkara, Secretary of the Galle Diamond Lions Club, sponsored this family Get Together by donating Rs. 25,000.00.

The program titled “Safe Fisherman – Secure Life – Towards a Clean Ocean” was organized on 21st December 2025 in the Magalla area, Galle, in collaboration with several students from APIIT University, under the chairmanship of Lion Kumara Dhammika. During the program, life jackets were distributed to 20 fishermen. In addition, a lecture was delivered by Lion Dr. Chathura Weliwitiya on the importance of wearing life jackets, the need to transition from a traditional fisherman to a smart fisherman, and the harm caused to the environment and marine life by plastic waste.
